The T1D travel checklist nobody told you to make

The calm, backup-to-your-backup guide for airports, road trips and crossing time zones.

01

The carry-on rule

Keep essential diabetes supplies with you, not in checked luggage. Checked bags can be delayed, lost or exposed to unsuitable temperatures.

Keep this bit
  • Insulin and delivery supplies
  • Meter, strips and spare batteries
  • CGM or pump backups
  • Fast-acting hypo treatment
  • Prescription copy and care-team letter
02

Temperature, security and time zones

Follow the manufacturer’s storage guidance for your insulin. At security, tell staff about your medical devices and supplies; local procedures differ.

Crossing time zones can alter the timing of insulin. Get an individual plan from your diabetes team rather than improvising a dose schedule online.

03

Plan the unplanned

Save local emergency numbers, learn where you could get urgent care and carry a simple emergency information card.

Keep this bit
  • Severe hypoglycaemia, loss of consciousness, trouble breathing, persistent vomiting, or suspected diabetic ketoacidosis can be life-threatening. Follow your emergency plan and seek urgent local medical care now.

SOURCES & RECEIPTS

Where this information comes from.

Safety note: Never stop insulin or change doses from an article. Follow your personal care plan and contact your diabetes team for individual advice. Severe hypoglycaemia, unconsciousness, trouble breathing, persistent vomiting or suspected DKA needs urgent local medical care.
