What your partner should know about your T1D
Support without hovering: the useful conversation about lows, devices and what help actually looks like.
Start with your version
T1D is personal. You can explain what it means in your life without delivering a lecture or apologising for it.
The practical conversation
A partner can learn your usual signs of a low, where you keep treatment and how your emergency plan works.
- Ask before commenting on numbers.
- Decide whether device alerts should be shared.
- Practise the emergency plan when nobody is panicking.
You are still the expert on you
Support should feel collaborative. If you want your partner involved in a clinical discussion, invite them—but medical decisions stay with you and your care team.
